Driveway, Meet Face

Just now, Joshua and I were hanging out in the front yard at Dave's parents' house and they have little plastic yard chairs for kids. Joshua and his cousin, Nathaneal, were having fun carrying and pushing them around.
Joshua decided to set his down on the driveway facing up the driveway and try to climb up it to sit in it. You see where this is going. I saw where this was going. Unfortunately I can't travel the speed of light, so he tipped over as I was headed toward him.
I scooped him up as he let out the longest scream I have ever heard. I kept saying, "breathe, breathe, breathe." He screamed so long (and I was holding him so tightly) that he passed out. I was so scared. It looked like he just went to sleep. It was the longest __ seconds of my life. My mother-in-law said, "blow in his face!" And that woke him right up.
Poor little guy cried and cried and cried. I checked his eye dilation and he seems to be fine (keeping him up a few hours past his bedtime to be sure). But it was quite an eventful evening.

Wow, that's scary! I'm glad things worked out alright and that Dave's mom knew to blow in his face. I'll have to remember that.

I hate those long screams... I blow in their face while they're screaming and then they have to breath... never knew they could pass out but I've heard that that's almost like a safety switch to keep kids safe... like the kids that hold their breath when they get mad... they pass out and then their body starts functioning again properly.

That's a really good way of thinking of it. I keep blaming myself for hugging him so tightly.

Poor boy and poor mama:-( I'm so glad he's safe and well. You're a fabulous mother- brush it off and get ready for the next episode right?! I'm just learning how dangerous little boys can be!!
